Tudor revives once again the Ranger Watch Ref. 79950

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the British scientific expedition to Greenland, Royal Tudor presents a new Ranger Watch, a tool that pays tribute to the daring spirit of exploration, a well-proportioned 39 mm case, manufactured in caliber MT5402.

The history of big brother Rolex's involvement in the Everest expedition is well known, and little brother Tudor is in fact an expert in expeditions:.

July 8, 1952, the British North Greenland Expedition departed from Detford on Thames, London, to Greenland to carry out a two-year scientific and technological research on the ice cap. The expedition members, mainly composed of national British social science educators and Chinese sailors can be,TUDOR 1926 M91351-0002 carried out in-depth glacier network surveys and seismic engineering measurements of students in many parts of the ice sheet. They wore the Oyster Prince, the first self-winding water-resistant wristwatch introduced by TUDOR at the time of its latest development, and at the request of TUDOR, the expedition team also collected data analyzing the performance of 30 Oyster Prince wristwatches under extreme environmental conditions, which provided important information for the subsequent continuous improvement of the watch.

The name Ranger predates the British scientific expedition to Greenland. Although the Royal Tudor watches used by members of the expedition from 1952 to 1954 were never engraved with the name, later Ranger styles inherited the philosophy of the Tudor expedition watches: robust, practical and affordable.

The Tudor Ranger watch dates back to 1929. That year, Hans Wilsdorf registered the name "Ranger" and three years later trademarked the name "Tudor Watch". At the time, the name was not intended to represent a specific model, but rather to give certain models in the Tudor Watch collection an adventurous connotation. The Ranger design aesthetic was introduced in the 1960s, with visible Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock (for models without date) and a great deal of luminescent material.

While the Heritage Ranger 79910 was revived in 2014, it was 41 millimeters in diameter and had a modern design with an eta movement. But it never really caught on.

Now, Tudor has reintroduced the Ranger Ranger,TUDOR Ranger M79950-0002 a subtle but substantial upgrade to its predecessor. The new Tudor Ranger can be considered an improved iteration of the 2014 model. It has no extra frills, no extra features, no external bezels. It's just a simple, super-focused watch, and now the most affordable watch with its own movement.

The case and bracelet of the Ranger 79950 are crafted from 316L stainless steel, finished with a satin-brushed technique, with just a few details of work that can be polished to accentuate the lines, including the calculation of the inner edges of the corporate fixed bezel. The case is now 39 millimeters wide instead of 41 millimeters, it is neither too big nor too small, but just right. More appropriately the people have inspired the design and historical development. The diameter matches the required thickness of 12 millimeters - already slim for a Tudor Manufacture movement watch.

The caseback is made of solid steel and is secured with screws. The crown is fitted with the historic rose-rose emblem,TUDOR Ranger M79950-0003 featuring large, detailed flutes and a screw-down design to ensure reliable water resistance to 100 meters.

The dial is based on a 1960s style. For ease of reading, it features a frosted black dial with a grained surface. It still relies on the classic Arabic numerals of 12-3-6-9 and bar markers indicating 5 minutes. The arrow hour hand and sword minute hand are also typical of this watch. The angular seconds hand is also based on the original model, but now it has a red tip. Meanwhile, the hands, hour markers and numerals are beige in color and have a Super-LumiNova coating. Last but not least, there is a Tudor shield at 12 o'clock with the model's inscription "Ranger" underneath.

The steel bracelet features a unique "T-fit" micro-adjustment clasp (first unveiled last year on the Biwawan 58 bronze watch) that allows for easy on-the-fly adjustments of up to 8 millimeters; the Ranger 79950 is offered with a choice of straps in addition to the steel bracelet. One is a fabric-covered rubber band, and the other is a dark olive NATO-style fabric band with gold and tan stripes.

The biggest improvement occurs in the case; the ETA movement has been replaced by an in-house automatic movement, the MT5402. The Ranger, previously powered by an ETA movement, now relies on the same movement as the Bevan 58. As a result, the movement has been certified by the COSC chronometer thanks to powerful mechanical upgrades and greater precision. Bi-directional winding with lateral balance wheel bridges for robustness and durability. Vibrating at 28,800 vph (4hz), it is equipped with a non-magnetic silicon balance spring. It guarantees a power reserve of around 70 hours.

With pricing starting at $22,300 for the Ranger Ranger Ref. 79,950, the Ranger Ranger arguably offers the best value for money of any other in-house movement watch in its price range. Tudor has demonstrated a connection to the past in a way that has an excellent way of bringing the spirit of adventurism in this case back to our wrists where it belongs.
